Painted by hand to work out what a player board should really look like. Pressure lines, a lantern, and the turquoise that runs everything with a need for energy.
Six slots with the pipework running around them. The arrangement was the hard part, because it has to tell a story and stay readable at a glance. But it does feel like the right direction.
The field is laid in with watercolour: sand, shallows and a paved edge. The wooden bars stand in for cover, and the black markers along the side are waiting to come on as reinforcements.
Not the first one off the printer, more like one of the last. Before these there were plain wooden blocks standing on the board, and here a class gets an outline of its own, one you can still make out from the far side of the table.
I love this view from the side. The meeples really shine at that angle. This is the enemy marksman. Obviously.
A printed sheet with a grid on it, wooden blocks for figures and a heap of red dice, and that was all the first game needed. The character sheets lying around it still carry the values of a very old version.
